Giving Back

At Rounton Farm we understand the importance of giving back to our community. It's something our family believes in and something we all participate in throughout the year. We give of our time as well as our resources. We are especially passionate about supporting causes that impact the lives of children of all ages. Whether it is meeting their basic needs, offering special experiences or encouraging leadership potential, all kids need to be loved and supported. A portion of our annual income goes directly to support the causes listed below and we love giving back in this way!

El Refugio/The Refuge

We are pleased to stand along side long time friends Scott and Leslie Freeman as they invest their entire lives to the children of Jaco, Costa Rica. Along with their four boys, Kai, Ezra, Jude and Koa they are providing a safe haven for street kids.

In their words..."In Spanish “El Refugio” means “The Refuge.” That’s what we provide the children of Jaco – a refuge in the midst of the chaos, corruption and darkness of this town. El Refugio is a calm in the midst of the storm. Broken families, drug addiction, higher school drop-out rates, underage prostitution, poverty and abuse are just some of the challenges children in Jaco face. Because of all of this many important aspects of their childhood are missing or have been destroyed. El Refugio exists to combat these risk factors. By providing a place to be creative and play, our hope is to restore some of those essential components back into the children’s lives. We want to keep these children from heading down the dangerous slippery slope into drugs, prostitution, and the darkness that is so prevalent in Jaco. How these children grow and develop today shapes who they will become in the future! If we can help meet some of those developmental needs we can change the direction their lives are headed in."

Young Life

We love Young Life! We love what it is doing right here in our own community and we love how it is impacting kids all over the world! It gives us great joy to host Young Life events throughout the year from the Freshmen Spaghetti Dinner in September and the annual fall Banquet, to end of year gatherings as well as hang out time in the pool and on the volleyball court.

Young Life at its core is this...

"Young Life doesn't start with a program. It starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships don't happen overnight — they take time, patience, trust and consistency. So Young Life leaders log many hours with kids — where they are, as they are. We listen to their stories and learn what's important to them because we genuinely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks. We believe in the power of presence. Kids' lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God's love with them. Because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose. This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God's love for them, will impact future decisions … careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised. All ripples from the time when a Young Life leader took time to reach out and enter their world."

Therapeutic Adventure Camp of Orange

Even our retired police horse Lindy offers her broad and stable back for young children with disabilities to experience the thrill of horseback riding during the Therapeutic Adventure Camp of Orange held each summer at Elmwood Equestrian Center just across the road from us. The camp is sponsored by 4-H and provides a week packed with fun and learning all centered around horses, friendships and fun! Our family has been helping out with this camp for over 30 years and each year it is more fun!
